9/6-9/7/09 Marlboro and Ossining NY

We didn’t spend too much time in Marlboro, Hardly left to marina save for a few provisions. We (Andrea and I) had a run in with the Marlboro Marina BBQ, and met few locals. A couple in particular, Bernie and Linda Ruf, were super about giving us history and other things to look out for as we pass through West Point.

Linda and Bernie

Andrea and I also learned that Marlboro was first settled 1697. Marlboro also is the home of the Gomez Mill House. The Gomes Mill House is now a Historical Spot. It is the oldest Jewish home in Orange County.

I slept on the deck, first night doing it, and awoke to an amazing sunrise!

Ossining NY (and West Point)

Ossining is on the west side of the Hudson River, and to the North of the Croton River.
For yet another brief stop in Ossining, we did all learn from locals that Frederick Philipse bought the area which presently constitutes the Town of Ossining from the Sint Sinck Indians in 1685.
We also learned that the SingSing Prison, a maximum security facility, is located there and is still in operation.
