9/1/09 through 9/5/09 in Catskill NY

9/1/09-9/5/09
Catskill NY
Catskill, 42°13′7″N 73°52′0″W / 42.21861°N, The village was purchased from natives Americans in 1684.. The village was incorporated in 1806.

We spent a few days here. A few reasons being, we had to wait for high tide the next day to step the mast, and a few more days to wait for some friends (Andrea and Greg) to joint in on our adventure for a few days.

Catskill is located on the west side of the Hudson River, where the Catskill creek flows into the Hudson River. With the beautiful Catskill Mountains in the background
Besides all the Costco gasoline and other gasoline businesses on the water front there, it was a super neat town. Catskill is a historical town, John Adams United States Congress man, died here. I went for a few runs, mostly to the bridge that crosses the Hudson River over to Hudson NY. It was a about a four mile round trip run, on a narrow dirt trail.

I thought one the coolest thing was that while we were here “Cat’n Around” Days was going on. It’s a celebration in Catskill that celebrates the Town and the local artists. 60 large ceramic cats that had been painted by different artist are located throughout the town. This celebration is also in honor of a long time resident, Thomas Cole, founder of the Hudson River School of Painting School. The historic site, The Cole House is preserved and is located near the approach for the Rip Van Winkle Bridge.

While awaiting our new crew members’ arrival, we kept ourselves busy by sanding and varnishing the sprit and the bow of the boat all the way back to mast. It looks so nice after a little TLC.

I became friends with the bartender, Nathan at “The Port of Call” Restaurant, and I discovered he has the same love for hoppy beers and seconded my opinion about having a hard time finding “good” beer. The last night we stopped there for dinner and sweet young Nathan bought a 12 pack of “good” and sold it to me( I don’t think he was expecting me to do that and wanted some for himself, sorry Nathan if you are reading this). It was an awesome IPA by Harpoon, very good. This Harpoon did the trick.
